On invitation of the City of Bayreuth (Germany), the Conference 2009 took place in the Franconian university and cultural city from October 2 to 5.
The program of the congress was dedicated to the new „European Route of Historic Theatres“ that had been constructed for the preceding two years with the support of the Culture Programme of the European Union.
On October 3 & 4 the topic was approached from three different angles. The first part presented a report on the European Route and the experience of other cultural routes. The second part focused on the preservation of this very special common European heritage – from legal questions to restoration. The third part discussed to what extend it is possible today to present historically informed productions of opera and drama from other eras.
An opera performance and guided tours on October 2 as well as an excursion to historic theatres in the area completed the program.
