PERSPECTIV - ASSOCIATION OF HISTORIC THEATRES IN EUROPE is a non-profit organization and it was inaugurated in October 2003. Members of the Association include historic theatres built between 1500 and about 1900, foundations and professionals involved in promoting the value of historic theater buildings.
Mission
The mission of PERSPECTIV - ASSOCIATION OF HISTORIC THEATRES IN EUROPE centers on:
- Conservation and Restoration - Encourage and support the conservation and restoration of historic theatres
- Exchange and Networking - Facilitate continuous exchange among historic theatres, professionals, and the interested public
- Research - Initiate and support exploration on historic theatre architecture, theatrical heritage, and related fields
- Public Awareness - Introduce the public to the importance of historic theatres as vital parts of European cultural heritage
- Cultural Tourism – Through the European Route of Historic Theatres, promote cultural tourism by connecting significant historic buildings across Europe
Statute
Current statute of PERSPECTIV – ASSOCIATION OF HISTORIC THEATRES IN EUROPE was ratified in 2019.
The main points of the statute include the mission, purpose and objectives, activities, conditions for members admission, rights and obligations, the responsibilities of different entities within the association, the rules for elections of the organization’s Board.

PERSPECTIV - ASSOCIATION OF HISTORIC THEATRES IN EUROPE is a non-profit organization and it was inaugurated in October 2003. Membership
Applicants must ensure they meet the membership requirements, including historical significance, active cultural use, legal status, and commitment to heritage preservation.
Applicants should prepare the following materials:
- A completed membership application form
- A brief history and description of the theatre
- Documentation confirming the theatre’s historical or heritage status (if applicable)
- Proof of legal status of the managing institution
- An overview of current cultural activities and programming

Members receive periodically an electronic newsletter with information from the world of historic theatres.
Membership is open to historic theatres and institutions that operate heritage theatre buildings with recognized historical, architectural, or cultural value and an active cultural function. A theatre wishing to become a member must be constructed after 1500 and being more than 100 years old.
The theatre must possess recognized historical, architectural, or cultural value.
The theatre must be actively in use for performances, cultural events, educational activities, guided visits or operating as museums.
The managing institution must demonstrate a clear commitment to the conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of the historic theatre building, in line with accepted heritage standards.
The theatre must be operated by a legally recognized public or private entity, such as a municipality, national institution, foundation, cultural organization or it can be also a private entity.
Applicants must show a willingness to engage in international cooperation and participate in European cultural initiatives, while aligning with the cultural, artistic, and heritage values promoted by PERSPECTIV.
Membership is granted following the submission of an official application and approval by the PERSPECTIV Board.
An annual membership fee applies upon acceptance.
Applicants should demonstrate a professional, academic, or persons involved the field of historic theaters, performing arts, cultural heritage, architecture, restoration.
Individual members must share and support the values and objectives of the Association.
